This match may be made in heaven, but it’s putting the bridesmaid through hell.

Janie is at her wit’s end, shepherding her twin sister past a monumental attack of pre-wedding jitters. Just two days before the fairytale wedding, the flower girl has chickenpox, someone has thrown up on the imported Italian napkins, and the bride has sunburned her face to a peeling pomegranate.

As problems increase, rivalries between the two sisters surface. Janie enlists the Best Man to help her survive her twin’s pre-nuptual chamber of horrors, but he offers more insight into her own behavior than she’s ready to hear.

Can Janie overcome all hurdles to salvage her sisterly relationship, snag the best man, and survive the wedding, all while wearing a tasteless strawberry mousse bridesmaid’s dress?  Even Superman didn’t have it this rough, and he wore his undies on the outside!

Behind the Scenes

Yes, I really do know a pomegranate bride –poor thing. Most of the events in this novella happened to me or my friends in some form, though all have been thinly veiled and carefully groomed to protect the guilty.

SOMETHING BLUE

Pastor Nathan Saunders awaits his version of Gideon’s fleece before asking his lifelong love, Petra, to marry him. But the legalistic and wealthy savior of their fishing village, John Peters, asks her first!

Nathan battles between the needs of his heart and the needs of his parishioners to keep John and his cannery in town. It’ll take a miracle in the form of an ugly town fountain, an irate Irishman, and some homicidal high heels to show that power and wealth are no match for true love. And to prove that God really does work in mysterious ways.

Behind the Scenes

I wrote Something Blue during a difficult time in my life, and consequently, it is more soul-searching than much of my other work, the humor more understated, with the emphasis being on the heart’s journey. While St. Hermes is a fictitious fishing village, the economic plight they face is common in many previously thriving coastal villages within my home state.

BLESSING GLORY B
This year the Christmas angel wears nursing shoes.
Novella

Who knew broken bones were the path to true love?  Fracturing her hip is Glory B Smith’s first big break in fifty-two years. Orphaned at seventeen and left to care for her diabetic younger brother, her only pressing goal in life is to become president of her charity group, The Spin-stars. That goal is slipping away now incapacitation stops her from meeting her philanthropic commitments. But Bob O’Brian, her drop-dead gorgeous, widower nurse, is about to teach her the value of charity for its own sake. Together with a one-legged blind Santa and a dog-dropping Christmas pudding, this will be one festive season Glory will never forget.

Behind the Scenes

The concept for this novella came from a harried trip into town with my youngest boy one December. Santas of all shapes and sizes filled the streets until it became a bit of a joke. Between us, we came up with crazier and crazier versions of what Santa should look like –black, yellow, alien, in a wheelchair, with pink hair and a pierced eyebrow, wearing a reindeer-skin lap-lap. From that insanity, Glory’s brother was born -- the Santa who’d lost his leg and was going blind from diabetes. Then came the sweet, loving sister who cares for him, and the Christmas present she’ll never forget.

THE POWER OF PURPOSE

Doctors have long been considered the heroes of the medical profession. Yet it is the nurses who are there for us at birth, death, and every bump, bruise, or break in between. A Cup of Comfort for Nurses brings the tales of more than fifty of these underappreciated professionals to life. The moving tales of dedicated nurses in A Cup of Comfort for Nurses are sure to appeal to you, and may even inspire some to take up the nurse's mantle.

In my short, The Power of Purpose, the attitude of a double amputee towards the man responsible for her accident teaches a young nurse about real courage and love.
